Gently blot up liquid with a dry cloth or paper towel, without rubbing. Then make up a solution as follows: 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1/2 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent, 2 cups tepid water. Most dyes used on oriental rugs are acid-fast, so the acid in the vinegar works to keep dyes from bleeding. Be sure to check in an inconspicuous area before cleaning your stain. Dab the cleaning solution on gently with a rag, avoiding scrubbing and disturbing the pile too much. Follow up with a damp sponge over the area, again dabbing gently. Allow to air dry.
