Why and How To Clean Your Carpets

Have you ever wondered why and how to clean your carpets? Carpets are often in the areas of a home or office where foot traffic is heavy. That is why you should maintain them the best you can. There are plenty of reasons to keep your carpets clean. We’ll fill you in on the most important reasons and how to do it.

Clean Air

There are so many allergens in the air, so it is critical to do everything you can to limit them as much as possible. Carpets are a magnet for airborne allergens. Every time someone walks on a carpet, particles get disturbed. These particles get redistributed in the air and make us sick.

To avoid allergies, illness, and smell, we need to stay on top of cleaning. Of course, carpet cleaning always starts with thorough vacuuming. Be sure to use a vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter to make sure you’re not breathing any of the sucked-up particles.

After a good vacuuming, you can follow up with a steam or traditional carpet cleaner. If you vacuum and clean on a regular basis, you will have cleaner air in your home. Your nose and lungs will thank you.

Preventative Measures

You can prevent a build-up of dirt and dust with measures outside of vacuuming. One of those measures is taking off your shoes. If you don’t wear shoes on the carpet, you are stopping dirt at the source.

Like taking your shoes off, you could also put a mat at the front door. A mat will provide a place to stomp off or wipe feet.

Your Carpet Will Last Longer

When you keep your carpet clean by vacuuming and using various preventative measures, it will last longer. The average carpet should last anywhere between 10 to 20 years, so there is no reason why yours won’t!

You made an investment to have nice carpet in your home, so protect your investment by maintaining it.

Annual Care

So, you’ve been staying on top of cleaning your new carpets. That’s great. Despite this, vacuuming, steaming, and preventative measures can only do so much.

To get an actual deep clean, you need to get a professional carpet cleaner to do your carpets. This deep clean will use hot water and non-toxic cleaner to get all that dust, dirt, mold, and mildew that may be living in your carpets!

Dealing With Stains

Stains happen to everyone. We’ve got some tips for you when it comes to dealing with minor carpet stains.

If caught soon, use clear water to dilute the stained area. DO NOT rub in the stain, blot with paper towels or terry cloth. Create a mixture of a quart of water, a teaspoon of white vinegar, and a teaspoon of dish soap. Pour this into a spray bottle and soak the stain.

Leave the solution on the stain for almost twenty minutes before carefully scrubbing the stain. Once the stain is up for the most part, use warm water to rinse. Blot it dry with paper towels.
